As we discussed last week, a lot of our perceptions and beliefs about money effect what I call our money relationship.  We all have a perception about money and what money means to us.  For some, money is evil and causes people to do bad things.  These thoughts will have a huge impact on how you perceive and handle money as an adult.  For others money may have meant success, and they may have had very positive role models who were wealthy.  The point is we all have a perception of money and that perception will dramatically affect how much we make, how much we keep,  and how we handle money in our life.  Here are some questions to that will allow you to understand how you think about money:

  • What were you taught about money when you were young?  Was it positive or negative?
  • Did your family struggle financially or was money always abundant?
  • How do you currently perceive money?
  • Do you make enough money to handle all of your needs and have some fun as well, or do you struggle?
  • What annual income level would you need to reach to be completely comfortable and have extra money over? (write this number down and then add 20%, I want you to start thinking big)

If you have any negative beliefs about money, you must begin now to get them out of your head.  You must find ways to change your perception of money from one that is negative to one that is positive.  If you are struggling right now in your life with money it can be directly linked to what you have been taught about money in the past or how your role models handled money while you were growing up.

The number one thing you must realize right now about money is this:  Money does far more good in the world than bad, it is OK to want and have lots of money, it is a great vehicle to enable you to help others, it makes the world go round, and most importantly money gives you freedom!  Freedom to choose, freedom to invest, freedom to give and help others, and freedom to live the life you want.  You must change your thoughts about money and replace your old thinking with new, empowering thoughts about money.

To help you begin to learn more about money and how it can work for you, I recommend the following books www.amazon.com.

  • The Practical Guide to Exceptional Living – Jim Garland (sorry for the personal plug but I have a great chapter about money in my book, that will change your thinking about money forever)
  • Think and Grow Rich – Napoleon Hill
  • The Richest Man in Babylon – George Clason
  • The Automatic Millionaire – David Bach
  • The Wealthy Barber – David Chilton
  • The Secret of the Millionair Mind – T.  Harv Eker (reading this now and it is great)

All of these books will begin to get you thinking in a new direction and in turn allow your mind to start to accept new ideas and thoughts about money.

Join me Thursday when I will discuss The Money Flow Rules™, don’t miss this it is pretty cool.
